Gare St. Lazare
Players Ireland

Gare St Lazare Players Ireland (GSLPI) came out of the original Gare St Lazare Players, an international company based simultaneously in Ireland and France with workshop/rehearsal facilities outside Paris. The original group was founded in Chicago by Bob Meyer in 1983 and moved to France in 1988. Judy Hegarty Lovett and Conor Lovett have been running the Irish operation since 1995.

The company rehearses either in Cork or in Mericourt (France) and premieres work in Ireland before touring internationally. In recent years the company has played in Germany, Holland, Israel, Spain, UK and the USA. Molloy by Samuel Beckett has played over 100 venues worldwide.

Over 10 years GSLPI have performed recitals of prose texts by Samuel Beckett in a variety of venues and festivals around the world. This has culminated in our current touring project Access All Beckett, a suite

of prose recitals which premiered at Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture. Our work has become synonmous with the name of Samuel Beckett and we continue to explore his work, most recently in the form of his seven radio plays which we just recorded for RTE Radio 1 in Dublin.

Additional work includes Swallow written and performed by Michael Harding (for which he won the Best Actor Award at Dublin Fringe Festival 2003)and directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett.

In 2006, The Samuel Beckett Centenary Year, as well as touring our Beckett prose recitals, the company will begin research and development for an entirely new project to be inspired by the Bouffons theatre style as revived by Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier. This will lead to a production in 2007.
